Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. She was the co-creator and the director executive of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website which explores the portrayals of women within popular stories of culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her primary goals. In addition, she is keen to draw attention to things like harassment and targeted attacks on women in the online world. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Political and Social Thought from York University, is also an extremely sought-after public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She has been interested in female issues as well as feminism from a young age. When she was in 2009, she was still studying at a university, Sarkeesian founded the site Feminist Frequency. A woman who was ambitious had a plan to make a web series that would examine the gender roles in gaming. However, she found herself at the center of a cyber-bullying campaign. The incident did not deter her from pursuing the project, and instead reinforced the determination of feminist media critic. Her work has earned her numerous awards in recognition of her many important contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won numerous awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that examines how women are represented in pop media narratives.
